How to Win Back Your Time

Even As a Busy Salon Owner

When it comes to starting, growing, and scaling your business – time is a hot commodity. And, if you’re like most entrepreneurs, there never seems to be enough time to get everything done. From having to wear multiple hats, to juggle your business operations, to training and supervising your staff – it’s a lot to keep track of on any given day.

But, can you truly have more time, without having things fall through the cracks?

For years, I believed that I had to do ‘all of the things’ and constantly be in the salon, if everything was going to work like a well-oiled machine. And, over time, I missed important family time and memories because I structured my life around my business – instead of structuring my business around my life.

Before long, I was overwhelmed, burned out, and ready to quit. Maybe you’re reading this and feel the same way? Maybe you’ve poured everything into your business, only to feel like your bank account doesn’t fully represent ALL of the work you do.

There’s a better way! In this blog, I’m going to walk you through an easy-to-implement structure I used to not only free myself from my business, but to easily pinpoint what I could delegate to make more time in my life.

Step 1: Know Your Numbers. This may seem a bit strange to do first, but if you don’t know how many hours you’re spending in your business, how much profit you’re actually making, and what your real expenses are – then you’ll forever be trapped behind the chair. When you know your numbers, no matter how scary this can seem, at least it gives you a baseline to work from and get systems in order.

Step 2: Find The Gaps. Where are you overextending yourself? What can you have someone on your team do? Who can you hire to take off some of the work? For many business owners, delegating or contracting out social media or even email management can free up hours every week. Think through what work you’re doing that’s taking you away from doing strategic work and see how you can get it off of your plate.

Step 3: Build In Self Time. When we’re intentional about making time for yourself, then you’re less likely to skip it for work. Add in time each week to do self care and to take time to do something you enjoy. Whether that’s working out, pursuing a hobby, or meeting up with friends, the more self time you can add into your schedule, the more balance you will naturally create in your life.

If you’re like most salon, spa, or barbershop owners, you may benefit from having additional support with #1. If so, feel free to dive into this amazing resource I created to help you get clearer on your numbers and how to carve out a path forward with more freedom!
